Nature's Winter Color Palette

Monday, January 22, 2024

I don't think I have been as obsessed with a cutting since discovering Queen Anne's Lace growing on the side of the road last summer, lol!  This is 'Fire Chief' Arborvitae.  Welcome to my winter color palette.  The paint color on that swatch is Ben Moore Gloucester Sage...just insert all the heart emoji's here.

When I saw this pillow, I realized I already have this palette inside...this plus a green velvet and I'm done.  It's from Pottery Barn a few years ago called Shelli Paisley.  I've been able to find it over the years via Ebay and Poshmark/Mercari.

My 'cutting' started out in the kitchen the night before, then moved to my office for a day.  It inspired me to clean up the two shelves in the photo and declutter the corners of my office and inside the armoire which was collecting a lot of miscellaneous items.  Poor third shelf...one day.

When picking up groceries the next day, the color (and price!) of these Anjou pears made me get a few.  I'm not even a fan of pairs, (i mean pears, though actually it a pair, lol) but these were actually really good.  And even better, aren't they pretty?!

But wait there's more, lol!  I actually stole that pillow from my family room, but then found this rust colored blanket behind a chair in my living room.  I must have put it away over the summer, so that was a happy find.  But isn't it the perfect shade of rust that perfectly compliments that olive green and gives all the warm and cozy vibes for these cold, blustery days?  Just say yes.

Until inspiration strikes again...

Color Crush-SW Pewter Green

Friday, September 15, 2017

Once or twice a year, I will have a photo or design that I feel smitten with.  One that will take my breath away and make me want to redo everything in the house.

Y'all.

This color.

Sherwin Williams Pewter Green.

I think I'm in love.  I saw this color and went and bought a sample of it and one shade darker to test.

Pewter Green was the winner.  I already bought a gallon and I need it in my life. It's sort of a grayed out olive green, and reminds me of rosemary, olive tree leaves, and of a really great army green jacket.  It goes well with bronze, gold, and chrome.

This kitchen by Urban Grace Interiors uses SW Retreat, which is one shade lighter than Pewter Green.  Love it too!

I feel really inspired to use this color and will share one of the ideas tomorrow.

The French Grey Palette

Monday, December 21, 2009

I have been obsessing about French Grey for a couple of months.  It's a warm grey tone found in seashells that goes with gold, bronze, and brushed nickel.  It also complements mother-of-pearl  found on the inside of some shells.  It's neutral--but has personality.   I put together new palette of colors and inspiration that I am thinking about.

I am finding that I am not as big a fan of contrast as I once thought I was.  This palette is very calming and natural.  I see natural woven fibers like seagrass and rattan, champagne and pearl glazes, and dark wood flooring.  I love the pearlized inside of the seashell against the french grey.  Restoration Hardware has a color called "Graphite" in their Slate Paint Collection that I think would work very well.

On another note, for my Winter Projects I am going to finish the projects I have started-

  1. Add hardware and poly to the entry chest in my foyer.

  2. Add poly to side table in living room.

  3. Sand, prime, paint/glaze, and poly to cedar chest in family room.

  4. Finish repairing dining set, repaint entire set, and recover seats.
With my 18 month old running around, that's probably enough.  Check back for pics of progress.
